I wonder where the word 'news' comes from. I guess it must be new or it wouldn't be relevant and therefore it wouldn't be news so it must be new s.
That just leaves the s. The cynic in me says it stands for shit but it's probably story. Wouldn't it brighten your day, though, if Huw Edwards came on the telly and said "hello, welcome to the new shit" or even better, that really serious intellectual sounding bloke that does the news on radio 4.

D8 have designed the launch brochure to mark the official opening of BBC Scotland’s new home, Pacific Quay. The building is the first purpose-built digital headquarters, incorporating studios and offices. Large public areas also offer visitors a view into BBC Scotland at work.
The launch brochure was designed in conjunction with BBC London to highlight the building’s use of space, its facilities and technical capabilities as well as show the architecture using a mix of shots, both internal and external.
