Betrothal

13 January 2012

When I saw our original artwork promoting Prokofiev’s opera Betrothal in a Monastery, a co-production between D8 client Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Scottish Opera, I thought to myself the bold use of colour and abstract art direction would brighten up Glasgow’s grey skies and rain-drenched streets. Definitely a stand out campaign for dreary January. Someone else was clearly thinking along similar lines and, while impactful colours would appear the only common ground here, it’s less of a juxtaposition than you’d think. Betrothal in a Monastery features tales of drunkenness, envy and multiple lovers; themes that more than likely play out weekly at the Cathouse. Which, I suppose, is one of the reasons why Prokofiev’s work is relevant today.
